About

Dr David Martin is a Consultant Surgeon specialising in Upper Gastrointestinal, laparoscopic, and obesity surgery. He holds consultant appointments within the Upper Gastro-Intestinal Departments of Surgery at Concord Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and also practises privately at Strathfield Private Hospital and Mater Hospital.

A graduate of the University of Queensland, Dr Martin undertook extensive post-fellowship subspecialty training in leading Australian and international centres. His advanced training included laparoscopic oesophageal, gastric, and biliary surgery at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre, radical oesophageal and gastric cancer surgery at Concord Hospital in Sydney, pancreatic and robotic cancer surgery at the University of Heidelberg, and advanced cancer and bariatric surgery at Leeds General Infirmary.

He has also completed further hands-on training in obesity surgery across France, England, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth, gaining expertise in a broad range of minimally invasive bariatric procedures.

Dr Martin specialises in upper gastrointestinal surgery, including oesophageal and stomach disorders, cancer surgery, advanced laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery, biliary surgery, pancreatic surgery, and obesity surgery. His practice focuses on evidence-based, minimally invasive surgical techniques aimed at improving patient recovery and long-term outcomes.

Alongside his clinical work, he is actively involved in research, publication, and international surgical collaboration. He has published widely in his specialist fields, contributes to subspecialty surgical textbooks, and regularly presents at national and international surgical meetings. He has also participated in national and international cancer boards and acts as a reviewer for international medical journals.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
