About
Before joining Evelina London, Professor Barron served as Director of Cardiac Surgery at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, home to Canada’s largest paediatric cardiac programme. During his tenure, he led the service to record outcomes and established its reputation as one of the leading centres worldwide.
Professor Barron studied medicine at St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School and undertook advanced cardiothoracic training at Papworth Hospital, the Royal Brompton, and Great Ormond Street. He then spent two decades as a senior congenital cardiac surgeon at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where he became known for mentoring the next generation of surgeons while consistently delivering excellent patient results.
Alongside his clinical leadership, Professor Barron is an active academic, with more than 230 peer-reviewed publications and chapters in 18 textbooks. His career reflects a commitment to advancing surgical excellence, education, and innovation in congenital cardiac care.
