About
Professor Kiire earned his primary medical degree at Makerere University, Uganda, after which he undertook his basic and advanced medical training and worked towards his Master of Medicine in 1980. He then came to the UK to further his training, gain membership with the Royal College of Physicians and continue his specialised training in Edinburgh in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Professor Kiire then went to Zimbabwe where he was appointed Lecturer, and eventually Professor of Medicine at the University of Zimbabwe. During this time he had the opportunity to work within various international organisations including the World Health Organisation, as a Consultant on Viral hepatitis and liver cancer. After working on the International Task Force for Hepatitis B, Professor Kiire was appointed Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at South Ormskirk Hospital, where he later became Clinical Director for Cancer. He is also an active member of the scientific and clinical research community, authoring many peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and books.
