About
Dr. Assem Shayah is a Consultant ENT Surgeon with more than 20 years of experience in the management of ear, nose, and throat conditions. He has extensive expertise in treating chronic rhinosinusitis, performing endoscopic sinus surgery, nasal polypectomy, tonsillectomy, and managing snoring. Between 2018 and 2024, he worked as a Consultant in Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery at York Teaching Hospital in England. He is accredited by the General Medical Council in the United Kingdom and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He currently practises at Clemenceau Medical Center Dubai.
Throughout his career, Dr. Shayah has developed a special interest in phonosurgery and trans-oral laser resection of benign laryngeal lesions and early laryngeal cancer. He is a member of the British Laryngological Society and was an active member of the Voice Service Team in North Yorkshire. His training also included specialised study in dizziness, for which he was awarded an MD in Otolaryngology, and he undertook further training at the American Institute of Balance in Florida in 2015. He ran a vestibular clinic at York Balance Centre, managing around 800 patients annually with vestibular disorders.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Shayah has contributed to teaching and education, including lecturing fourth-year medical students at Hull and York Medical School and supervising doctors in the foundation year programme. In 2018, he was appointed Governor Lead of the Head and Neck Department at York Teaching Hospital, overseeing quality and safety across four subspecialties: ENT, maxillofacial and facial surgery, orthodontics and restorative medicine, and audiology.
Dr. Shayah has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented at numerous national and international conferences. Before relocating to the UAE, he also ran a private practice at The Nuffield Hospital in York and The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate.
